The first business acquaintance between Ben Beckmann (Prokonpack) and Joop Kaufman (ESE international) dates back to about ten years ago. At that time, Prokonpack mainly supplied the most diverse packaging materials – read: boxes – to ESE International. For over a year now, the total supplier in the field of evacuation, company emergency response and first aid from Veldhoven, has had the packaging giant from the city of light install a packaging line that is as complete as it is effective.
Protonpack has been profiling itself as a leading packaging specialist in the Benelux for four decades. Beckmann’s company does this through innovative ideas, smart packaging solutions and customization in the field of packaging machines and packaging. “Prokonpack has been experiencing significant and healthy growth for several years now, and the same applies to Joop’s company. It is therefore wonderful to see that both organizations have more or less grown together. And where in the first years of our collaboration we mainly supplied packaging materials to ESE International, I am truly proud that Joop consciously chose some time ago to have us set up a complete packaging line on location. And of course Prokonpack will continue to supply all packaging materials.
OPTLEDGE
An invention by IKEA and the alternative to the classic wooden pallet. OptLedge is a unique packaging system in the field of strong and smart transport. Beckmann: “The patented plastic transport system – for which we have the rights for most of Europe – is available in various sizes and makes the use of “normal” pallets redundant. With OptiLedge, organizations immediately save on transport costs and other costs on materials, space (height and weight) and the prevention of damage. A set of OptiLedge pallets has a load capacity of no less than 1,350 kilos!
HEALTHY GROWTH
“As a total supplier in the field of evacuation, company emergency response and first aid, the growth of my company has increased enormously in recent years,” says Kaufman. Whether it concerns the in-house production of bandages (Quick, ed.), AEDs, first aid kits, back braces, first aid cabinets, stretchers, work clothing and the import rights of the EVAC+CHAIR and Plum. The number of orders per day has increased explosively in recent years. And then I haven’t even mentioned all the so-called ‘loose products’ that – as a result of our drugstore license – end up on the packaging line every day. Days with a sloppy 200 orders per day are the rule rather than the exception, so a second packing table, including the associated necessary expansion of personnel, is a matter of course imminent. Of course a new assignment for Ben and his employees!”
CUSTOM LOGISTICS SOLUTION
Anyone who crosses the threshold of the logistics nerve centre of ESE International in Veldhoven cannot avoid it: the growth of his company, as mentioned by Kaufman, is clearly reflected in the practice on the work floor. An impressive roller conveyor, packing tables, box closer and shrink and wrapping machines are running at full speed every day. Beckmann: “A highly modern logistics installation that we have assembled and installed with great pleasure and enthusiasm. And then Prokonpack naturally also supplies all the accessories: from various tapes to shrink film and from filling material to packaging materials. In addition to the final installation of all the supplies for the logistics centre of ESE International, we also supervised the entire preliminary phase.
