In the event of a fire in a home or building, you need to be able to escape quickly and safely.
Choosing a good escape ladder is vital.
What is an escape ladder?
An escape ladder is also called a rescue ladder, fire ladder or emergency ladder. It is a life-saving and compact tool to escape from the window in case of emergency. In case of fire in your home or office, the normal escape route may be blocked. If you are stuck on the first floor or higher, you need an alternative escape route to get to safety. The escape ladder can be hung on the windowsill, creating an extra escape route so that you can escape quickly and safely. Partly due to its light weight and handy size, the escape ladder is the life-saving tool in case of emergency. Escape ladders are available from us up to 20 meters. Depending on the floor height of the building, the emergency ladder can be placed from the 6th or 7th floor.
How does an escape ladder work?
The escape ladder is easy to use and can be attached to the windowsill with special hooks. When the ladder is in place, you can release the lock and easily throw the ladder out. When descending, several people can use the escape ladder up to a weight of 450 kg.
It is recommended that a maximum of 3 people descend at the same time. Do you have to escape with children? An adult must evacuate first to keep the emergency ladder stable. Only carry children if necessary.
The right length
When you are going to purchase an escape ladder, it is good to know what length is needed to reach the ground. It is advisable to choose a slightly longer length, so that you can reach the ground safely.
We also ask you to first measure the depth of your window frame / windowsill. It is important that mounting hooks fit well, so that the fire ladder hangs stably and you can descend safely. It is advisable to choose a slightly longer length, so that you can reach the ground safely. The escape ladders from our range can be hung on a windowsill of up to 38 cm deep. These fire ladders cannot be optimally attached to the mounting brackets if the windowsill is deeper than 38 cm.
The most common lengths, depending on the floor height, are:
5 Meter : Suitable for 1 or 2 floors
7 Meter : Suitable for 2 or 3 floors
10 Meter : Suitable for 3 or 4 floors
16 Meter : Suitable for 5 or 6 floors
20 Meter : Suitable for 6 or 7 floors
Tips for using an escape ladder
Immediately available
Place the ladder near the escape window or under the bed, so that the ladder is within reach in case of fire. Do not store the ladder on top of a cupboard or a hard-to-reach place. The ladder may not be placed in sunlight or at a temperature of more than 50 degrees Celsius.
Safe escape route
Make sure you can get out safely if a fire breaks out. Determine how you can escape via the fastest and safest route from each room. Also determine an alternative route if the first route may be blocked. Practicing the escape route is strongly recommended to be able to act even faster in an emergency.
Keep the intermediate door closed
In case of fire, the fire can be fanned further when the window is opened. Make sure the intermediate door is closed before you escape outside.
