Description
Imodium capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride (2 mg per capsule). This is a substance that reduces strong peristaltic movements of the intestine. Thus, this substance is responsible for the effect of Imodium against diarrhea.
Imodium works only where it is needed, namely in the intestine. Imodium typically stops diarrhea within a few hours. Imodium is used for acute or chronic diarrhea. Acute diarrhea starts suddenly and usually resolves within a week. Chronic diarrhea is long-lasting.
Imodium is used to combat the diarrhea itself. It does not treat the cause of the diarrhea. If the cause of the diarrhea is known, that cause should be addressed.
