Lyme disease can cause conditions affecting the skin, glands, heart, joints, and the nervous system. Research has shown that Lyme disease is caused by a tick bite. Experts have determined that the bacteria can enter the bloodstream between 2 and 4 hours after the tick has attached itself. Therefore, the tick must always be removed as quickly as possible. No preventive medicine is available; however, early detection of the disease can lead to a cure with a course of antibiotics in some cases.
It is a misconception that ticks can be removed with a bit of alcohol, oil, butter, or a greasy ointment. Additionally, the use of a regular tweezer is highly discouraged. Ticks must be removed entirely. The most suitable instrument for removing ticks is the tick tweezer.
Slide the tick tweezer laterally over the entire tick in the V-shaped notch so that it is secured in the clamp. Now, twist the tweezer 2 to 3 times counterclockwise and pull the tick out. Disinfect the bite wound with disinfecting fluid after removing the tick.
