fire extinguisher maintenance

To guarantee fire safety in a building, properly functioning fire extinguishers are essential. Strict legal rules therefore apply to the maintenance of fire extinguishers and fire hose reels. For example, fire extinguishers must be checked at least once every two years and fire hose reels must be inspected annually. However, many insurers require an annual inspection of all fire extinguishers.

ESE International provides annual maintenance for fire extinguishers and fire hose reels. Our REOB/VEBON certified service employees come by to inspect the fire extinguishers. Thoroughly, professionally and always in accordance with the legal NEN standards. Contact us for more information or fill in the form below to conclude a service contract.

Fire extinguisher inspection and inspection

With a service contract from ESE International, you are assured of a periodic inspection and testing of all your fire extinguishers. During the inspection, the fire extinguishers present are checked according to the applicable NEN standards (2559, 2659 and 671-3). The devices are checked for the functioning of the components and for any damage. In addition, we issue a report with our work and findings. Of course, the devices are provided with a control sticker after the inspection.

Does the device not work properly (not ‘ready for use’) or does it need to be replaced? Then we will advise you extensively about this.

Tip: do you not have any fire extinguishers yet or does a device need to be replaced? At ESE International you can also fire extinguisher.

Advantages of fire extinguisher and fire hose reel inspection

Strict legislation applies to the maintenance and testing of fire extinguishers and fire hose reels. And that is not without reason. Fire extinguishers play a major role in (fire) safety in a building. Are your devices not ready for use? Then you risk a fine during an inspection by the fire brigade and, worse still, you endanger the safety of employees, customers or visitors. Therefore, take advantage of the benefits of a periodic inspection by ESE International:

  • Inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers by REOB/VEBON certified service employees
  • Inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers according to the NEN standards (2559, 2659 and 671-3)
  • Extensive report with findings after maintenance
  • Extensive advice with cost estimate for possible replacements
  • Planning by ESE International; you don’t have to do anything

Costs of the inspection

The costs for the maintenance and inspection of fire extinguishers include call-out charges, reporting and inspection sticker. However, the exact price depends on the number of fire extinguishers and the risk profile of the company.

Do you want to have your fire extinguisher(s) inspected and are you curious about the total costs? Then contact us via the contact form below.

Frequently asked questions fire extinguisher maintenance

Fire extinguishers are mandatory in business premises and in all buildings that are open to the public. Think of shops, catering establishments, hotels and museums.
To prevent fire extinguishers from falling over, it is important to hang up fire extinguishers. It is not permitted to place fire extinguishers loose on the ground.
When fire extinguishers are placed in a commercial or public environment, the locations of the fire extinguishers must always be indicated with a pictogram.
Fire extinguishers are best placed in places where people can reach them quickly. Hang them at a good height in sight and make sure they are not blocked by other objects. Important places where fire extinguishers can be hung are a stairwell, reception or central hall.
A fire extinguisher that hangs in a fixed place usually lasts 20 years. Note: the lifespan of a fire extinguisher also depends on the maintenance of the fire extinguisher.
According to the law, there must be two fire extinguishing units per 150 m2, such as a fire extinguisher and a fire hose reel. If there is an increased risk of fire, such as in a space where wood or flammable liquids are used, then there must be two fire extinguishing units per 100 m2.
In the Netherlands, fire extinguishers in companies and public spaces must be hung at a maximum height of 1 metre, measured from the top of the red hull.
There are different types of fire classes. Not every fire extinguisher can extinguish every fire. For example, a foam extinguisher is mainly suitable for extinguishing fires of solids and liquids (class A and B). With a powder extinguisher you can also extinguish fires of gases such as natural gas and LPG and fires of flammable metals (class C and D). With a CO2 extinguisher you can extinguish liquid fires and electrical fires (class B and E).
A foam extinguisher is the best fire extinguisher for in the car. This fire extinguisher, unlike a powder extinguisher, does not run out quickly and causes less collateral damage.
