Slide the tick tweezers laterally over the entire tick into the V-notch so that it gets caught in the clamp. Now turn the tweezers 2 to 3 times counterclockwise and pull the tick loose. Disinfect the bite wound with disinfectant solution after removing the tick.
Research has shown that Lyme disease is caused by a tick bite. Experts have determined that bacteria can enter the bloodstream between 2 and 4 hours after the tick has attached itself. Therefore, the tick must always be removed as quickly as possible. Lyme disease can cause conditions affecting the skin, glands, heart, joints, and nervous system, among others. No preventive medication is available, but if the disease is detected early, a course of antibiotics can lead to recovery in some cases.
It is an outdated idea that ticks can be removed using a bit of alcohol, oil, butter, or a greasy ointment. The use of a regular tweezer is also strongly discouraged.
Ticks must be removed in their entirety. The most suitable instrument for removing ticks is the tick tweezers.
