Why is good hand hygiene so important?

Spread of germs

Most germs are transmitted via your hands, which is why hand hygiene is so important. This can help prevent the spread of germs and prevent you or someone else from getting sick. Germs can be combated by washing your hands with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, it is best to choose a disinfectant hand gel.

Our hands come into contact with surfaces that cannot be cleaned every day. At work, at home, at school and during sports. Grabbing a door handle, using the toilet or the elevator and holding a banister. And these are just a few of the many examples that our hands come into contact with every day. By not touching your face with your hands and washing your hands regularly, the chance of spreading germs and someone around you or yourself getting sick is reduced.

Is there no water or soap available? We are happy to explain how you can disinfect your hands in this case too.

Clean hands are important

Antibacterial gel offers the solution to disinfect hands and to render bacteria and other micro-organisms harmless without water and soap. By disinfecting the hands, pathogens are killed. Hand gel in a bottle, for example, is easy to use and ideal for on the go. Also for in the car, at the office, on public transport and other places where no water is available.

Hand gel is an effective tool to use at the entrance of a building or location so that we can disinfect our hands when entering and leaving. It can also be an extra careful addition for good hygiene after washing hands in public or busy places.

What is important to know before buying a hand gel is that the alcohol percentage must be at least 70% to be effective against viruses. At a lower alcohol percentage, the effect is much less effective. This can still cause germs to be transmitted.

The use of hand gel

  • Apply a few drops of gel to dry hands
  • Spread the hand gel well over the hands and fingertips (also rub it between the fingers) for at least 30 seconds
  • Rub the hand gel until the hands are dry. Do not use paper or towel to dry the hands
